The FDLE wants to suspend Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony's law enforcement certification for six months, but he'd still remain sheriff.
Tony is accused of lying on his driver's license application repeatedly when he claimed it was never suspended when he was 16.
The FDLE says that's "an act of moral turpitude," and Tony broke the public's trust.
If that happens, Tony will lose his ability to make arrests or otherwise act as a police officer in Florida, but he would be allowed to remain in office.
Tony's attorneys claim it was never proved Tony knowingly made a false statement on his application and asked that the judge dismiss the case.
