Federal prosecutors are accusing two men, one from Florida, of running an $8-million scam on vacation rental sites Airbnb and Vrbo.

The U.S. Attorney says that Shray Goel, 35, of Miami and Shaunik Raheja, 34, from Denver are accused of "double-booking in a bait-and-switch scam."

The two are charged with multiple counts of fraud in connection with more than 10,000 reservations linked to nearly 100 properties, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California.

Airbnb issued a statement: “We have taken multiple steps to strengthen our defenses against deceptive behavior, including measures like identity and listing verification which we believe will help further deter already rare instances of this type of activity.”
