A former Florida inmate who was wrongfully incarcerated for 16 years was shot as he struggled with a deputy during a traffic stop in Georgia.
Leonard Cure was only out of prison for three years following his exoneration when he was pulled over for speeding and reckless driving on Interstate 95 in Camden County Monday.
On the dashcam footage of the police shooting, Cure can be heard yelling, "I'm not going to jail!"
He appeared to not comply with the officer's simple instructions and then a struggle ensued after Cure was Tasered.
The officer then opened fire as he was being choked and Cure died from the gunshot wound to his mid-section.
Cure was sentenced to life in prison in Florida for a 2003 armed robbery in Broward County which he did not commit.
In April 2020, Broward County's Conviction Review Unit modified Cure's sentence to 16 years and was released with time served.
He was the first person exonerated by Broward's conviction review unit.
During his time in prison, Cure was called a model citizen & spoke to school students about the justice system.
