Astronomers are hopeful today will be the day humans find out if there is any other intelligent life in the universe.

Four decades ago, astronomers at Stanford University sent a radio wave message into space of 13 drawings depicting the history of life on Earth through the stages of evolution.

Today, scientists in Japan will start scanning the sky for a reply.

“A large number of exoplanets have been detected since the 1990s,” said Shinya Narusawa, a professor at the University of Hyogo in Japan, who leads the team tasked with detecting any unusual radio signals.
