(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida Govenor Ron DeSantis is doubling down on the anti-LGBTQ ad shared on the Proud Elephant Twitter thread.

The 2024 GOP presidential candidate is defending himself after sharing a video bragging about his fight against the LGBTQ+ community.

Despite objections from Republicans and Democrats, DeSantis is standing by the ad, which opens with several clips of Donald Trump expressing support for LGBTQ+ people and frames these comments as damning.

“Identifying Donald Trump as really being a pioneer in injecting gender ideology into the mainstream, where he was having men compete against women in his beauty pageants — I think that’s totally fair game, because he’s now campaigning saying the opposite,” DeSantis told conservative commentator Tomi Lahren in an interview for her streaming show “Tomi Lahren is Fearless.”

Trump is still leading Desantis by double digits in the polls.
