The Los Angeles City council is approving a "robot dog" to be used by the LAPD. The donation of a "Quadruped Unmanned Ground Vehicle" was approved eight-to-four on Tuesday night. The vote was delayed twice since early March. The Los Angeles Police Foundation is offering to donate the robot dog, which is valued at about 278-thousand-dollars. LAPD representatives say the device will only be used in SWAT or hazardous materials situations, or search and rescue operations. It's able to open doors and get into areas not accessible to aerial drones.
