Family Of Slain Miami Sergeant Says They're Being Left In Dark On His Death

The family of slain Miami Sgt. La David Johnson says they are being left in the dark about the death of their loved one in Niger.

Johnson was killed early October along with three other Americans, with questions raised about why his body was not recovered for days.

His death received renewed attention after his widow Myeshia Johnson said that President Trump had forgotten her husband's name in a condolence phone call and said that he “knew what he signed up for.”

According to an Associated Press report released Sunday, the 25-year-old was killed amid gunfire from Islamic State-linked fighters and was not captured.

That claim counters what his family was originally told, and Johnson's mother, Cowanda Jones-Johnson, told CNN Monday morning that the “seven different stories” she's heard contribute to her hurt.

“We find out everything via social media,” his sister Richshama added. “They haven't briefed us the proper way the way they were supposed to.”

The Associated Press cited sources who had seen an investigative report, and the probe into the death, which has seen rumors of an execution, is still ongoing.

A  final report on Johnson’s death is expected to be released next month.
