Trump Says FL Congresswoman Fabricated Comments To Local Soldier's Widow

President Donald Trump tweeted Wednesday morning that he never told the widow of U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson that the soldier "knew what he signed up for ... but when it happens, it hurts anyway."

Johnson, a 25-year-old father of two from Miami Gardens, was killed Oct. 4 while fighting in Niger.

Florida Democratic Rep. Frederica Wilson told reporters that she overheard Trump make the comment while speaking to Johnson's widow, Myeisha Johnson, during a telephone conversation.

"So insensitive," Wilson said, continuing "He should have not have said that. He shouldn't have said it."

Wilson fired back at Trump, claiming that she proof of the comments, too.

It wasn't immediately clear what proof President Trump had. Trump has previously implied he had tapes of conversations with James Comey, the FBI director he fired, only to reveal after weeks that he did not.

The conversation between Trump and Myeisha allegedly took place Tuesday, before the soldier's body arrived at Miami International Airport.

A GoFundMe page was created Monday in Myeshia Johnson's name to benefit her and the sergeant's kids' college funds.

As of Wednesday morning, the page had raised more than $272,000.
