Dozens of Birds with Monikers Linked to Racism or Misogyny to be Renamed

The group responsible for naming birds across the Americas is renaming all birds named after problematic people.

For example, Audubon's Shearwater, named after John Audubon, a famous bird illustrator and slave owner who opposed abolition.

The Shearwater is a small seabird found mostly in the tropical waters of North America,

New names will be more descriptive about a bird's habitat or physical features.
