3/31/23: It’s Time to Rewrite the Rules of Financial Success for Your Kids

3/30/23: How the SEC Set the Stage for this Advisor's Scam

I want to tell you about Jeffrey Cutter. He's a financial advisor in Massachusetts. He operates his own firm called Cutter Financial Group, and he manages about $134 million for about 400 clients since 2014. For the past nine years, Jeffrey Cutter has been selling annuities to his clients, and he never told them that he's been collecting commissions of 7% to 8%. All this in addition to the 2% annual fee that he and his firm charged.

3/29/23: Will Your Job be Overtaken by AI?

You've been hearing a lot about ChatGPT, haven't you? That's a chat bot that writes term papers. It even passed the bar exam and now the company that makes it says 80% of US jobs are going to be impacted by this new software. That's because ChatGPT and other programs like it are all about artificial intelligence, and they're going to be able to write code, do math with more accuracy and consistency. Your boss is going to pay for the software to do your job instead of hiring you to do it.

3/28/23: How the College Scam Ruins your Kid's Future

Let me ask you a basic, simple, fundamental question. Why are you going to college? Why are you sending your kid to college? Well, it's because getting a college degree helps you prepare for a career, right? And that career pays more money than the careers that are available to people who don't go to college. That's the fundamental thesis, isn't it? Well, let me tell you about the 10 worst paying college majors.

3/27/23: The Irony of Today's Banking Crisis

It's Monday, March 27th, and I am astonished that Wells Fargo is paying yet another $300 million to settle yet another class action lawsuit. In this particular case, this lawsuit alleged that the bank forced hundreds of thousands of its customers to buy unnecessary insurance when getting an auto loan. This is just the latest in a long string of financial fines and lawsuits, settlements that Wells Fargo has incurred since 2000.

3/24/23: When You Die, Do Your Kids Know Who Gets What – and Why?

It's Friday, March 24th. I want to talk about old people today. Yeah, those who are 65 plus, we're talking about a group of the US population that represents 17% of everybody in the US, but they have 75% of all the wealth in the US. We're talking about $70 trillion that are owned and controlled by people 65 and older over the next 20 years. All that money, $70 trillion, is going to be transferred to their children and other heirs.

3/23/23: The Surprising Benefits of Working Longer

It's Thursday, March 23rd. Yesterday, we talked about the four-day workweek. If you work one day less a week, maybe you can work more years, meaning your body might not get worn out so quickly. And if working fewer days a week lets you stay in the workforce longer, that might be really good for your long-term health. A new study says that if you retire early, you could indeed damage your health.

3/22/23: Will You Soon Enjoy The Four-Day Work Week?

It's Wednesday, March 22nd. 100 years ago, odds were high that you lived and worked on a farm. That was a 24/7/365 job because, you know, cows and pigs and chickens, they never take the day off. They got to be fed or milked or always cared for and crops always needed tending to every day. The Industrial Revolution gave us the six-day workweek. Sunday was off for religious reasons. Eventually, that led to the five-day workweek. In 1938, Congress created the 40-hour workweek and set overtime pay for anything more than that. That was then. Now there's a movement to a four-day workweek.

3/21/23: When Tech Is So Good You Don’t Even Notice

It's Tuesday, March 21st. I often talk about tech on this show because our technological innovations are changing the planet. We're growing so accustomed to them that tech innovations are just not getting anybody terribly excited about them anymore. I've deliberately waited a few weeks to bring you today's story because I wanted to make this point.

3/20/23: Guess What Millennials Are Doing Now?

It's Monday, March 20th. It's the first day of spring. Awesome. Hey, you know, everybody, of course, wants to have a secure financial future, but millions of Americans are setting themselves up for financial failure instead. That's because of their poor judgment, their immature behavior and their bad decisions. And I might well be talking about your adult children.
