Miami, FL - Miami police confiscated approximately 56 pounds of cannabis and uncovered gambling machines at a neighborhood market and smoke shop.
The investigation into El Rincon Market and Smoke Shop commenced several months ago following a stabbing incident at the establishment.
Undercover officers subsequently conducted operations and reported purchasing cannabis from the store.
Detective Matthew Martinez of the City of Miami Police stated that laboratory analysis of products obtained during undercover purchases revealed THC levels ranging between 7% and 22%.
Authorities arrested the 25-year-old store manager on multiple charges, including trafficking cannabis, possessing a gambling device, and contributing to the delinquency of a child.
A 15-year-old was also arrested, accused of cannabis possession with intent to sell near a school.
During a court appearance, the store manager's attorney contended that the cannabis products sold at the store were legal, asserting they contained THC-A, which he claimed is permitted by law.
He emphasized that the store's products were displayed openly, properly packaged, and accompanied by certificates of authenticity.
However, police reported that not all seized narcotics were commercially packaged; they also discovered vacuum-sealed bags adjacent to the office in the back of the shop.
Additionally, the arrest report indicated the presence of a concealed rear room housing six gambling machines.
The proximity of Green Springs High School, located just feet away from the smoke shop, adds to the gravity of the situation.
This case highlights ongoing debates surrounding the legality of certain cannabis products in Florida.
While hemp-derived THC-A is legal in the state, provided the total THC content does not exceed 0.3%, products surpassing this threshold are considered illegal.
