After 30 years, a man has been charged with murder in the death of an elderly woman in Riviera Beach.
Cold Case Detective John MacVeigh says new DNA technology linked a sample of Willie Rodgers' blood to evidence from the scene.
"It appears the motvie was probably some type of burglary or robbery due to the fact that Mr. Rodgers lived in the neighborhood and we know that the murder had occurred inside the house. And we suspect that it was some type of burglary or robbery maybe that went bad."
MacVeigh does not say how 75-year old Earnestine Mortimore was killed back in 1995.
The case sat dorment for years before 2023 when it was reopened.
Rodgers will face a first degree murder charge while he continues to serve a prison sentence for an unrelated crime.
