The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office warns of a phone scam involving someone who calls himself "Sergeant William Maloy" and falsely tells the person who answers the call that they have an outstanding warrant that must be paid over the phone to avoid arrest.

The Sheriff's Office says there is no "Sergeant William Maloy" and urges the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to the scam.

The bottom line is that no one will ever call to warn you about a warrant out in your name and allow you to cancel it with payment.
