Ex-BSO Deputy, School Guard Arrested For Striking Student

An ex-Broward Sheriff's Office deputy, fired from the force, is under arrest for hitting a child. The current Blanche Ely High school security guard Ronald Thurston, is facing child abuse and battery charges. He was fired in 2020 from BSO for excessive use of power in a tough take down caught on camera of a suspect. Sheriff Gregory Tony wrote then that Thurston had "neither the temperament nor decision making abilities to wear a badge or carry a gun."

Thurston is being reassigned pending this new investigation, away from children.
