Miami, FL - A fatal incident occurred on a Miami trolley Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the death of one passenger and the detention of another.
According to police, the altercation took place on a trolley near Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 29th Street.
Miami Police Captain Freddie Cruz says that two male passengers engaged in a dispute, during which one individual allegedly produced a knife and fatally stabbed the other.
The identities of the individuals involved have not been released pending family notification.
Eyewitness accounts and video footage from nearby residents captured the aftermath, showing bystanders attempting to assist the victim lying adjacent to the trolley.
Subsequent footage depicted passengers evacuating the trolley, with one person dressed in black appearing to flee the scene.
Captain Cruz emphasized the unusual nature of such incidents on public transportation, stating, "This is just a very, very rare occasion. The trolleys are safe, the bus systems are safe... I personally can tell you that I've never heard of a homicide happening on one of our trolleys."
Aerial visuals from the scene displayed the trolley cordoned off by crime scene tape, with multiple evidence markers on the ground, including one adjacent to a knife.
Authorities confirmed that several passengers were present during the incident; however, no additional injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing as officials seek to determine the cause of the argument that led to the fatal confrontation.
Captain Cruz remarked, "We want to know what the cause of this argument was, which makes no difference because at the end of the day someone's life was lost, so it's very disturbing."
No further details are available at this time.
Authorities urge anyone with information related to Tuesday's stabbing to come forward.
