Flagler County, FL - A dramatic police chase ended when a Florida deputy used his patrol car to subdue an armed suspect fleeing on foot in a confrontation caught on dashcam video.
The arrest occurred after the 38-year-old suspect was spotted standing next to a bicycle around midnight by a deputy patrolling the area.
The deputy attempted to make contact with the suspect, who fled on a bicycle.
Dashcam footage released by authorities captured the suspect fleeing on the bicycle when a deputy uses his patrol car to strike him, causing him to fall to the ground.
"Dep. Murphy, fearing that McDermott would engage him with the firearm, struck McDermott with his vehicle, ejecting him from the bicycle and causing him to drop the firearm," the Flagler County Sheriff's Office said in a release.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly commended his deputies' quick thinking and noted that the patrol car maneuver was executed to protect the public and deputies from potential harm.
The suspect sustained minor injuries and was arrested shortly after the takedown.
He faces several charges, including assault or battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding, resisting an officer with violence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Authorities reported that no civilians or deputies were injured during the incident..
