The holiday season didn't slow down scammers who continue to try and rip off Floridians.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office is warning about an uptick in fraudulent activity heading into the New Year.

A social media post notes that the agency has been alerted to a range of scam calls including one, with audio provided, in which scammers pretend to be with the Sheriff's Office's warrant division.

The Sheriff's Office says it does not ask for money over the phone and would never call someone to say there is a warrant out for their arrest that could be eliminated by paying a fee.

Authorities also warn of the "fake computer virus" scam that especially targets the elderly who fear their personal information is at risk.
