A warning from law enforcement: don't cover your car in blinking Christmas lights.

It's become a social media trend this season, cars and trucks decked out in colorful holiday lights but Boynton Beach Police say it could get you a ticket.

"We don't want to steer anybody away from the holiday cheer or anything like that. But it's important to know that if you have flashing lights on your vehicle, it's not only distracting you but other drivers."

Officer DJ Hall tells CBS 12 News that those lights could make it difficult for other drivers to see your brake lights, taillights and headlights, and blue lights could make someone think they're being pulled over by the cops.

"Distracted driving can result in death. That's the most important one. We hate seeing that, especially during the holiday season. It's not something that we want to see."

A ticket could cost you $100, though Officer Hall says none have been issued at this point.
