TAMPA -- President-elect Trump is nominating a Tampa Bay area sheriff to head the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Chad Chronister has been Hillsborough County sheriff since 2017, when he was appointed by then-Governor Rick Scott. He has more than three decades of law enforcement experience. His agency has participated in DEA programs to fight the opioid crisis, and has been involved in numerous high-profile drug cases.
The president-elect says Chronister will "work with our great Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to secure the Border, stop the flow of Fentanyl, and other Illegal Drugs, across the Southern Border, and SAVE LIVES" in the Truth Social post announcing the nomination.
Chronister is the son-in-law of Eddie DeBartolo. The former San Francisco 49ers owner was pardoned by Trump during his first term after a 1998 guilty plea in a Louisiana gambling case.
The DEA post requires Senate confirmation.
