North Lauderdale, FL - The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) is asking for the public's assistance to help identify a car thief who stole a Chevy Equinox while the owner was pumping air into the vehicle’s tires.
BSO is asking for the public's assistance in identifying the thief who targeted the victim at an apartment complex last month.
According to BSO, the carjacking occurred on August 31st around 5:00 pm at an apartment complex located at 8000 Hampton Boulevard in North Lauderdale.
Surveillance footage released this week captured the suspect interacting with the victim before stealing his vehicle.
The victim, who was pumping air into his black 2020 Chevy Equinox, reported that an unknown male approached him and inquired about the tire.
After a brief conversation, the victim finished inflating the tire and looked up to find the suspect behind the wheel of his SUV, driving away.
The suspect is described as a male adult wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with red lettering and red and black shorts.
"This brazen theft serves as a reminder to be vigilant when in public," stated BSO spokeswoman Miranda Grossman. "We urge anyone with information about this crime to come forward."
BSO is asking anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information regarding the case to contact BSO North Lauderdale District Detective Lisa Sokol at 954-720-2261.
