The West Palm Beach Police Department is looking to increase bike patrols in two areas of the city.

City Commissioners plan to consider whether to approve the purchase of more electric bikes for police officers to add to the 12 they already have. If approved, the plan would be to have a total of 18 bikes.

Police say more bike patrols will increase their visibility and footprint.

The six new bikes would cost $42,000, including $170 for maintenance per month.

The city will take up the issue on Monday.

Police want to have the new bikes in place in time for the holiday season.
