Miami, FL - A young girl dealing with a difficult illness fulfilled her dream of becoming a zookeeper thanks to Make-A-Wish South Florida.

A 10-year-old girl with a love for animals had her dream come true thanks to Make-A-Wish South Florida.

According to 7 News Miami, 10-year-old Luci Austin, who is enduring a difficult health journey, spent a day at Zoo Miami as a zookeeper.

Accompanied by her mother, Elena Hardin, and Zoo Miami's goodwill ambassador, Ron Magill, Luci experienced a day filled with animal encounters and unforgettable memories.

She interacted with giraffes, elephants, reptiles, and even a singing parrot.

"I truly believe that these animals know that these kids have faced challenges," Magill told WSVN. "They seem to react to them differently than they do with other people in many ways."

The trip to Zoo Miami provided a much-needed respite for Luci and her family.

"It's a perfect day, this is a perfect day," Luci told her mother.

Hardin expressed her gratitude to the care team and Make-A-Wish for making her daughter's wish come true.
