Lee County, FL - A man has been arrested for breaking into a Southwest Florida home and inappropriately touching a child inside.
Deputies say 42-year-old Jose Barbosa was taken into custody on Monday after he broke into a residence, inappropriate touched a child, then barricaded himself inside the home.
Authorities say the family was outside in their pool when Barbosa entered the home and interacted inappropriately with the child.
The family, fearing for their safety, escaped by climbing a fence to a neighbor's property.
Responding officers set up a perimeter around the residence while additional resources, including a helicopter, drone, and K9 units, were deployed to the scene.
While approaching the house, deputies reported hearing gunshots from inside.
Barbosa eventually exited the residence, however officers say he refused to comply with commands and less-lethal force was deployed to take him into custody.
Investigators believe Barbosa may have consumed two beers and a bag of chips while inside the home.
Barbosa was arrested on charges of burglary, battery, and petit theft.
