Polk County Man Arrested for Misusing 911 to Score Free Ride

Polk County, FL - A Polk County man is facing charges after admitting to faking suicidal thoughts on a 911 call on Tuesday.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd identified the suspect as Christopher Harris, who allegedly called emergency services from a Dollar General on Palmetto Street in Poinciana.

When deputies arrived, Harris confessed to fabricating the story.

According to Sheriff Judd, Harris admitted he wanted a place to stay for a few nights and devised the plan to get "Baker Acted" - a mental health evaluation - in hopes of being transported to a hospital.

Harris reportedly intended to use the hospital's resources to arrange transportation to Tampa, as his mother apparently refused to pick him up.

He was arrested for misusing the 911 system.
