(Miami, FL) - The Biden administration offering deportation amnesty to thousands of Haitians who fled their island nation over the last two years.

DHS granting Temporary Protected Status to Haitians allowing them to stay here legally for 18-months with work permits and some taxpayer benefits.

Local Haitian Cultural Activity expert, Sandy Dorsainvil, says about 50-thousand Haitians have sought refuge in South Florida over the past two years and qualify for TPS.

To qualify, Haitians must have been living in the United States since at least November 6, 2022.

Dorsainvil, asks local attorneys to help Haitians apply for the protected status and families to open their homes and offer them a place to stay.

"It is free to apply for TPS, but some charlatans will take advantage of these vulnerable people. They need help." said Dorsainvil.

Eligible immigrants need to apply for TPS and must prove they entered the United States before June 3, 2024. Once granted, their TPS status would last for up to 18 months (Feb 3, 2026).

"FANM applauds this decision and stands ready to assist members with the application process."
