Amateur radio operators, also known as HAM operators will be taking over the beach at Carlin Park in Jupiter this weekend.

The Jupiter-Tequesta Repeater Group is holding its annual Field Day at the Jupiter Civic Center.

Operators will be competing to make contact across the world, something they do to help emergency officials in situations like hurricanes. The local group came in very handy during the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons, getting pertinent information to officials in Palm Beach County.

Field Day runs for 24 hours, from 2 p.m. Saturday until 2 p.m. Sunday and the public is welcome to stop by and even try out HAM radio for yourself.

Jupiter-Tequesta Repeater Group President Al Moreschi shares more information about the event and the importance of amateur radio.
