Broward Man Confesses to Child Sex Abuse at Charter School

Broward County, FL - A 23-year-old man has allegedly admitted to sexually abusing a young girl while employed at a charter school in Broward County.

Bryam Salas, from Port St. Lucie, confessed to Fort Lauderdale Police after a social studies teacher at New Life Charter Academy, located at 3550 Davie Boulevard, reported that the victim had confided in her about the abuse.

According to police, Salas, who worked as a janitor at the school for three years, acknowledged sexually abusing the girl, whom he believed to be around 8 years old, in a restroom.

He expressed remorse during his confession, stating, “I know what I did was wrong.”

The arrest report indicates that Salas disclosed he first met the student in August, and by September and October, incidents escalated from hugs to tickling and eventually to sexual abuse.

Salas admitted to perpetrating the abuse even when other children entered the restroom, allegedly explaining his actions as repairing a toilet and urging them to return to class.

The investigation commenced on November 6, leading to a warrant issued by Broward County Circuit Judge N. Hunter Davis.

Salas was subsequently arrested on Thursday and is being held without bond at the Paul Rein Detention Facility in Pompano Beach.

He faces charges including two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim younger than 12, and one count of lewd and lascivious conduct.

Salas has since ceased employment at New Life Charter Academy.
