LISTEN: State Officials & Dade Mayor Give Updates On SoFla Flooding

Fingers are crossed that rain today won't hinder the progress city, county and state officials have made drying out South Florida.

The state emergency response team has sent more than 11,000 feet of flood protection systems, ten pallets of food, 14 pallets of water and 90 pumps to South Florida.

In order to receive a federal disaster declaration, allowing for FEMA help, "We would have to be probably in the neighborhood of needing about 1,000 homes damaged with major of destroy damaged, and we just don't have that," says Florida Emergency Management Executive Director Kevin Guthrie.

He believes as of now there are only about four homes with major damage in Broward.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava is pleased with the coordination among the county and its 34 municipalities saying, "We are really doing a lot with our infrastructure, our pumps, our canal system our drains, our building higher."

An after-action report will determine how they can improve further.
