Man Robs Victim At McDonald's, Uses 'Wet Floor' Sign As A Weapon

Pompano Beach, FL - A South Florida man is facing charges after allegedly attempting to rob a senior citizen at a Pompano Beach McDonald's on Tuesday.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, 35-year-old Donnelle Antoine Gaines approached a 66-year-old victim who had just paid for breakfast and demanded money.

The victim fought back and ran behind the counter for safety.

BSO investigators say Gaines then grabbed a wet floor sign, which had a sharp edge due to a broken bottom, and swung it at the victim.

Gaines then fled the restaurant, but deputies located him nearby and apprehended him after a brief foot chase.

Gaines was taken into custody on charges of armed robbery, aggravated battery, battery on a person over 65, and resisting arrest.

A previous battery conviction from October 2023 is also listed in Gaines' arrest report.

As of Thursday afternoon, Gaines remained in custody on a $40,500 bond.
