Broward County Officials Give 'Rain Event' Update

Broward County Government is open Thursday for normal operations, with a few exceptions. County Administration and the Office of Emergency Management are monitoring conditions closely as another large rain band is expected this afternoon. Summer school and activities are cancelled for today. County courts are closed as well.

·     Animal Care and Medical Examiner are closed to the public today due to localized flooding issues.

·     The Broward County Landfill is closed Thursday.

·     Three Broward County Libraries are closed Thursday: African American Research Library & Cultural Center (AARLCC), Hallandale Beach Blvd. and the Fort Lauderdale Reading Center.

·     Three Broward County parks are closed: Easterlin, Hawksbill and Hollywood Beach Park. The campgrounds at Easterlin Park are also closed. Amenities at various parks are closed due to flooding. To check the status, visit Broward.org/Parks. The Marine Environmental Education Center/Carpenter House in Hollywood is closed.

·     Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is open and entrance/exit roadways are clear, except for a section of Perimeter Road, which is closed due to flooding. There will likely be continued flight delays and cancellations. We encourage the traveling public to check in with their airline for updates.

·     North Perry Airport (general aviation) is fully operational. Watch social media and the FLL.net website for updates.

·     Port Everglades is open with no issues. Petroleum and container terminals are open for normal business. No cruise ships are scheduled until Friday.

·     Broward County Transit is running normally on most routes; there are two detours on Routes 28 and 4. There are communications systems in place to notify passengers of service interruptions.

·     Highway & Bridge Maintenance (HBMD) Division has pre-positioned 12 pumps in vulnerable areas, including the Broward Municipal Services District (BMSD), which is in addition to the 8 pumps already in place on Wednesday. Some pumps are actively working to mitigate current flooding. Others are positioned in locations where problems are anticipated following the expected afternoon rainfall. Public Works teams are in several areas of the BMSD monitoring and clearing roadways as necessary.

·     County drawbridges are operating normally.

·     The Broward County Emergency Operations Center remains at a Level 3 Activation – Assessment and Monitoring. According to the National Weather Service, all of South Florida is under a Flood Watch through Friday evening.

·     Broward County is under a local state of emergency and the Governor's state of emergency.
