The body of an eight-year-old boy has been recovered from the Intracoastal in Boynton Beach.

Officials say the boy was fishing with his father when he fell off a pier and into the Boynton Inlet.

The currents were very strong this morning and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue spokesman Tom Reyes tells CBS 12 News that the Inlet is always a rough area.

"It is a large amount of water that's going through a very narrow area and whenever that happens you get very strong currents, you get very strong waves. And it is one of the more dangerous inlets in the area."

He says several agencies spent nearly two hours searching in hopes of rescuing the boy before switching to a recovery mission, which ended before 11:30 a.m., when the body was found.
