Man Arrested After Racist Tirade and Knife Threat at Church's Chicken

Broward County, FL - A convicted felon has been arrested following a racist rant at a Broward County Church's Texas Chicken that escalated when the suspect brandished a knife at the assistant manager.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO), 41-year-old Marco Lewis Augustus entered the restaurant and began shouting at employees, verbally accosting the assistant manager with racial slurs.

The situation escalated when Augustus exited the restaurant but continued his tirade in the parking lot.

The assistant manager approached Augustus and requested that he leave the premises.

Authorities say that Augustus responded by brandishing a switchblade knife and advancing toward the assistant manager while hurling further racial insults.

Fearing for his safety, the assistant manager immediately called 911, causing Augustus to flee the scene.

Deputies located Augustus walking on nearby Sunrise Boulevard.

He was taken into custody on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest without violence.

A background check revealed prior prison sentences for burglary and providing false information to a pawnbroker.

Augustus remains jailed at the BSO Main Jail with a bond set at $15,500.
