Burn bans have gone into effect along the Treasure Coast.

Martin and St. Lucie counties both have burn bans in effect following brush fires.

They include one that was started over a week ago by an ember from a previous blaze. It charred nearly 300 acres and caused the evacuation of homes in the Stuart West community in Martin County.

Both bans apply to burning of yard trash and vegetation as well as campfires and bonfires. Martin County's ban also prohibits the use of fireworks, less than a month from Independence Day.

Rain is forecast this week, but that also brings concerns about lightning strikes which could trigger brush fires.
