Aventura Condo Board President Arrested for Pepper-Spraying 65-Year-Old Man

Aventura, FL - The president of an Aventura condominium board was arrested Friday after allegedly pepper-spraying a 65-year-old man who was helping his daughter move in, following a dispute over parking.

The incident occurred at the Ensenada condominiums at 3401 N. Country Club Drive, according to an arrest report from the Aventura Police Department.

Police responded to Building 1 of the complex just before 3:30 p.m. on Friday after receiving a report of a battery.

The suspect, identified as Ohad Asus, 39, reportedly confronted the man about "illegally parking in front of the building."

Asus claimed that he saw the man parked in a prohibited area and returned an hour later to place a “no parking sticker” on the vehicle.

According to Asus, the 65-year-old man then "charged at him," prompting Asus to pepper-spray him twice in self-defense, fearing for his life.

However, video footage provided by the building manager contradicted Asus' account.

The video showed Asus approaching the man with pepper spray in hand.

The man walked toward Asus, who then sprayed him in the face.

The building manager informed police that the man's daughter had a reservation for her father to help her move furniture into her unit that day.

Asus was arrested on a felony charge of battery on a person 65 or over.

He was held on a $10,000 bond after a judge found probable cause for the charge.

As of Monday morning, Asus was no longer listed in Miami-Dade jail records.
