A Treasure Coast deputy is charged with using excessive force on a suspect.

Deputy Randy Walker has been with the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office for eight years.

He turned himself in on Saturday on a count of misdemeanor battery and making a false statement in connection to an arrest on April 2nd.

The felony warrant suspect ran into the woods and the deputy's actions after a K-9 tracked the man down were caught on body cam video.

Sheriff Keith Pearson says the video shows discrepancies between what Walker reported and what actually happened and the deputy failed to report that he struck the suspect at least three times in the head and neck area.

Walker is on unpaid leave pending termination.
