Indian River County residents will soon be paying more for trash pick-up.
The County Commission has approved a ten-year contract with Waste Management and the universal service means it's no longer opt-in.
Every resident will be getting the service except those living in Vero Beach and Sebastian because those municipalities have their own trash service.
But the price is going up around $4 a month from $14 to just over $18, and some residents aren't happy.
Commissioner Susan Adams tells CBS 12 News that Waste Management were the lowest priced out of the five companies that put in bids.
“70% of the residents of the residents in Unincorporated Indian River County already receive trash service, so with the pricing being what it was, it was a good opportunity to take advantage of that. $4 is, in this day and age, is a great return for our customers."
It had earlier been predicted that the rate could increase by over 200 percent.
The service includes recycling pick-up.
