The St. Lucie County State Attorney is pushing for a change in leadership at the Sheriff's Office.
Governor DeSantis appointed Keith Pearson to lead the agency after the abrupt resignation of longtime sheriff Ken Mascara due to health concerns earlier this year.
Lead prosecutor Tom Bakkedahl says the sheriff’s office “is perceived to be run like a frat house replete with gang signs, shameless self-promotion, and the constant search for clickbait.”
Bakkedahl says he is supporting Port St. Lucie Police Chief Richard Del Toro for sheriff in this year's election.
