Parking Dispute Leads to Shooting in Pompano Beach Mobile Home Community

Pompano Beach, FL - A parking dispute in a Pompano Beach mobile home community for residents aged 55 and over resulted in a shooting on Sunday afternoon.

John Thomas Thibault, a resident of Golf View Estates, was arrested on charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to a Broward Sheriff's Office report, the incident stemmed from an argument with a neighbor over parking on the incorrect side of the road.

The victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and is currently hospitalized, reported using a flashlight for self-defense after Thibault, 60, allegedly lunged at him upon returning home.

The victim's wife also stated that she used pepper spray on Thibault during the altercation.

Investigators are reviewing witness statements and the official report indicates Thibault may have initiated the confrontation.

He reportedly pulled a gun and shot the victim during the argument.

Thibault claims he acted in self-defense and that the gun malfunctioned, preventing further shots.

He is currently being held without bond as the investigation continues.
