Town Hall Tonight Addresses Schools Closure Plans In Broward

Dozens of schools could close under a plan presented by Broward Public Schools.

Superintendent Howard Hepburn held a town hall meeting yesterday at Hollywood Hills High School to discuss how to address a decline in student enrollment. The Redefining Our Schools plan calls for closing over 40 schools in one scenario, and the other calls for closing three. The bigger plan would close two high schools, eight middle schools and 32 elementary schools.

The smaller plan would close two elementary schools and a middle school. Hepburn talked about the possibility of closing Olsen Middle in Dania Beach, Oakridge Elementary in Hollywood, and Broward Estates Elementary in Lauderhill.

Two more town hall meetings will be held this week to discuss the plans and get feedback.

Tonight's meeting is set for 8:00 at J.P. Taravella High School in Coral Springs. Tomorrow's meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. at Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale.
