A Republican congressman representing Florida's 8th District in Indian River and Brevard counties has announced he will not seek reelection.
Bill Posey had initially planned to run for another term but made this surprise announcement on Friday, soon after qualifying officially ended.
In his online statement, the 76-year old Posey said he was looking forward to another spirited campaign for a final term in office but that circumstances beyond his control now require him to suspend the re-election campaign.
He did not elaborate but is endorsing former state Senate President Mike Haridopolos for the seat.
