Broward Student Arrested for Attacking School Security Guard

Hollywood, FL - A South Florida high school student was arrested for assaulting a female security guard after his phone was confiscated last week.

Hollywood police arrested 18-year-old William Porter IV on Wednesday following the assault of a school security guard at McArthur High School.

Police say school officials notified a school resource officer about a disruptive student in the internal suspension classroom.

Upon arrival, officers found security staff restraining Porter.

Authorities say the incident stemmed from a confiscated cellphone.

School policy prohibits phone use during internal suspension, and security personnel informed Porter he would be sent to the principal's office for violating the rules.

Reports indicate Porter became verbally aggressive towards a female security guard during his escort from the classroom.

The situation escalated when Porter grabbed the guard in a bear hug and slammed her to the ground.

A responding officer intervened, but Porter managed to strike the security guard in the face.

Additional security personnel were required to subdue Porter.

The security guard reports that Porter attempted further punches, though none landed.

The security guard expressed her desire to press charges and provided a statement to police.

Porter faces a single charge of battery on a public or private education employee.
