Miami Beach Commissioner Targeted in Armed Robbery

Miami Beach, FL - Miami Beach Commissioner Joe Magazine was the victim of an armed robbery attempt last week but remained unharmed after the suspect was arrested.

35-year-old Christopher Pitre faces charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and armed burglary stemming from an incident last Thursday.

Surveillance footage captured Pitre unlawfully entering a secured garage at 650 West Ave. and rummaging through Commissioner Magazine's vehicle.

When confronted by Magazine, Pitre fled the scene, brandishing a gun and pointing it directly at the Commissioner before escaping on a distinctive black and gold stand-up scooter.

Following a city-wide manhunt, a Miami Beach police officer apprehended Pitre on Monday after recognizing him riding the same scooter.

Police recovered a loaded Ruger .380 handgun from Pitre.

Investigators determined Pitre is a convicted felon with a criminal history in Texas and Alabama.

He reportedly confessed to the crimes during questioning.

Commissioner Magazine expressed relief at the arrest, commending the Miami Beach police department for their swift response.

Pitre made his initial court appearance on Tuesday and remains jailed without bond.

Detectives believe Pitre's arrest is linked to a string of burglaries that occurred between March and April.

"When detectives began to piece together the evidence," stated Miami Beach Police Officer Chris Bess, "we were able to connect multiple investigations."
