Port St. John, FL - A man was fatally shot inside a vehicle while waiting in the after-school pickup line at Challenger 7 Elementary School in Port St. John on Friday.
According to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, the shooting happened near the intersection of Balfern Street and Stillwater Avenue outside of school property as dismissal was underway.
Investigators determined the individuals in the car were picking up their grandchild from school.
A man inside the vehicle was accidentally shot when a gun discharged.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
No details regarding the cause of the accidental discharge have been released.
The school district implemented a brief shelter-in-place order as a precaution while deputies investigated the shooting.
