Sinkhole Caused By Ruptured Sewage Main, Health Alerts Issued

We're learning more about a sinkhole that opened up on Tuesday night in Palm Beach County.

Utility officials say a contractor for AT&T ruptured a sewer main along Florida Mango Road at Waterside Drive in Palm Springs. The intersection has been closed off to traffic and won't reopen until next week.

According to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the 36-inch wastewater force main is discharging at a rate of 2 million gallons per day.

The Department of Health has issued health alerts for residents in the area not to swim in any of the canals or use the water for irrigation purposes.

The drinking water supply was not impacted.

Affected Areas:

Lake Clarke and Lake Clarke Shores, L-10 canal, L-9 canal, Grassy Saw Lake, Lake Osborne, C-51/West Palm Beach canal, the canal between Waterway Drive and West Lake Drive, the canal between West Lake Drive and Pine Tree Lane, Keller canal, other nearby surface water bodies connected to those water bodies.
