School is cancelled today in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties as South Florida Muslims observe Eid al-Fitr.
Samir Kakli, president of the South Florida Muslim Federation-says its significant since it marks the first time all three counties are closed for this religious celebration. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan; a month-long fast Muslims have been observing from dawn until sunset with increased prayers and reflection. The holiday translates to the "Festival of the Breaking of the Fast."
