Furloughs Announced As Spirit Deals With Financial Tailspin

Miramar-based Spirit Airlines furloughing 260 pilots in an effort to get out of a financial tailspin.

The move becomes effective September First. The low cost carrier has also reached a deal with Airbus to delay all aircraft deliveries scheduled from the second quarter of 2025 through 2026. The agreement with Airbus would improve cash-strapped Spirit’s liquidity by about $340 million over the next two years. Spirit, which has been losing money for several quarters , operates an all-Airbus fleet.
