Felon Crashes After Carjacking, Throws Money at Witnesses with Kids

Cape Coral, FL - A chase involving a stolen car, a carjacking, and drugs ended with a crash and an arrest in Southwest Florida on Sunday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, troopers were alerted to a black BMW fleeing law enforcement near Lake Trafford Road and Summer Glen in Collier County.

The suspect, identified as 24-year-old BiJaun Wayne Edwards, was reported to be driving recklessly.

The chase continued through Collier County and crossed into Lee County.

Despite efforts by troopers, Edwards persisted in fleeing until crashing into a pickup truck at a 7-Eleven gas station near State Road 82 and Blackstone Drive.

Following the crash, Edwards abandoned the BMW and attempted to carjack the pickup truck.

In a desperate attempt to evade arrest, Edwards reportedly threw money at the occupants and demanded their silence.

A search of the BMW yielded a significant amount of illegal contraband, including:

  • 40 oxycodone pills
  • Several pounds of marijuana
  • A firearm
  • Thousands of dollars in cash


Edwards, a convicted felon, now faces a multitude of charges including aggravated fleeing, reckless driving, hit-and-run with property damage, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, probation violation, possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting without violence.
He is currently incarcerated in Lee County Jail.
