18-Year-Old Arrested for Brutal Beating of 14-Year-Old Caught On Video

Sunny Isles Beach, FL - Police have arrested an 18-year-old man following the brutal assault of a 14-year-old boy at a South Florida park on March 16th.

The suspect, identified as Mykola Sokol, was arrested after a video of the assault surfaced on social media.

The footage captured Sokol attacking the victim at Gwen Margolis Park in Sunny Isles Beach reportedly over a hat.

According to police, Sokol approached the victim and commented on his hat, then reached for it.

The victim reacted defensively, and the situation escalated.

Video of the assault captured Sokol wrestling, punching, and even stomping on the victim's head.

A separate video shows the injured victim being led away from the scene.

Sergeant Brian Schnell, a Sunny Isles Beach Police spokesperson, said of the assault "it appears the suspect beat the victim unconscious before continuing to punch and kick him. The victim sustained facial injuries."

Sokol surrendered himself to police on Friday, accompanied by his mother and lawyer.

He invoked his right to remain silent and was charged with aggravated child abuse.

Authorities are investigating March 16th's assault and expect to press charges against another teenager seen throwing punches in the video.
