Three federal lawmakers from Florida have sent a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs after a murder at the West Palm Beach V-A Medical Center.

Congressman Brian Mast and both Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott want Denis McDonough to take immediate action.

"You have two veterans, very clearly one that's lost his life and one that is going to be adjudicated for taking somebody else's life."

A veteran being treated in the hospital's mental health unit was allegedly strangled by his roommate on Saturday.

Mast, a veteran himself, says there has been a repeated failure to address what he calls the "pervasive issues plaguing the facility."

The Republican representative last year sent a series of letters, urging McDonough and hospital management to address concerns of safety and mismanagement.

He's been working with the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and says investigators will be at the hospital next week.
