Lee County, FL - The Lee County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a man suspected of multiple thefts from the Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District.

SWFL Crime Stoppers released the suspect's image, describing him as a young Hispanic male, who is believed to be responsible for stealing items from the fire station on Old 41 Road on several occasions.

Chief Greg DeWitt told NBC 2 News "It's incredibly frustrating. We are here to serve the community, and this theft directly impacts our ability to respond to emergencies."

Chief DeWitt revealed that the stolen items include a pair of Hey Dude shoes and two firefighter boots, worth a combined value of $1,400.

These specialized boots are crucial for firefighter safety during emergencies.

"Firefighters cannot perform their duties safely without proper equipment," Chief DeWitt emphasized. "Having a stolen boot means a firefighter could be sidelined during a critical situation."

The fire station previously maintained an open-door policy, keeping the bay doors open throughout the day, facilitating faster response times and allowing residents to seek help easily.

Investigators theorize this may be a crime of opportunity due to the stolen items' limited resale value.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect's identity is urged to contact SWFL Crime Stoppers.

Tips can be submitted anonymously and may be eligible for a reward.
